MSG Dishon O. Carr Biography

MSG Carr was born and raised in Johnstown, PA 18 May 1984. He is married to Megan S. Carr, and together they have five children and one granddaughter: Kaysire S. Carr (23), De’Vyon A. Carr (20), D’Myah A. Carr (18), Za’riya O. Carr (15), and Aliyus R. Carr (14), and Granddaughter Lorelai A. Carr. MSG Carr’s military career began as a 19K, Abrams Armored Crewman on 8 May 2008 in Fort Knox, KY. Upon graduation, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment in Fort Stewart, GA.

MSG Carr was stationed at Fort Stewart, GA from August 2008 to April 2016 as part of the 1st Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team. While part of 1-64, MSG Carr held every position on the Abrams Tank platform including the Driver, Loader, Gunner, and Tank Commander. He also served as a Platoon Sergeant, Company Master Gunner, and Battalion Master Gunner. From 2009-2010 MSG Carr deployed to Mosul, Iraq with the unit supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, which transitioned to Operation New Dawn. From March 2012 to December 2012 MSG Carr deployed with the unit to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also deployed on several training rotations to the National Training Center, Camp Shelby, and in 2015 to Europe to conduct training as part of the Regionally Aligned Forces.

From April 2016 to October 2020 MSG Carr was stationed at Fort Moore, GA. His first year at the Maneuver Center of Excellence was spent as a training developer/writer. He was an instructor for the Army Basic Instructor Course and Small Group Instructor Course. His last three years he spent as a Senior Drill Sergeant for Bulldog Company, 1st Battalion, 81st Armored Regiment.

In October 2020 MSG Carr was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX, and served as a Platoon Sergeant in Chosen Company, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, and in May 2021 was selected to serve one up and replace the outgoing First Sergeant. He served as a MSG within the Ready First Brigade as Chosen7 (20 months), Blackfoot 7 (15 months), and as the Forerunner 7 (7 months). In that time he has successfully deployed his organization to the National Training Center twice, to South Korea twice, and successfully executed several Gunneries and Live Fire Exercises.

MSG Carr’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and he is pursuing his Master’s degree in Social Work. His military education includes the Master Leaders Course, Commander/First Sergeant Pre-command Course, Drill Sergeant School, Foundational Developers Course, Small Group Instructors Course, Army Basic Instructors Course, Battle Staff, Maneuver- Senior Leaders Course, M1A2 SEP Master Gunners Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders course, Master Fitness Trainer course, and Warrior Leaders Course.

MSG Carr’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (5), Army Good Conduct Medal (5), Humanitarian Service Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Nato Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Overseas Ribbon (4), Master Gunner Identification Badge, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, and the Combat Action Badge. He is member of the illustrious Order of St. George – Black and Bronze recipient.
