LTC Steven Corey Rose

Professor of Military Science


LTC Rose started his military career after graduating from Branford High School in June of 2000. He then entered service as a PFC in the Signal Corps, completing Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, SC, and AIT in Ft. Gordon, GA. Upon completing his training, he was assigned to the 552nd Signal Company out of Camp Red Cloud, Korea. After completing a 1-year tour, SPC Rose was assigned to the 1110th Signal Battalion, Ft Bragg, NC. He proceeded to complete his initial enlistment contract and ETS from the Army as a Sergeant, on an ROTC Scholarship in 2005.

In 2007, LTC Rose completed his bachelor’s degree in History through Methodist University and was commissioned as a 2nd LT into the Army as an infantryman. He completed IBOLC, Ranger School, and ABN School before being assigned to Charlie CO. 1-504th PIR, 82nd ABN DIV at Ft. Bragg, NC. He completed assignments as a Platoon Leader, Company XO, and HHBn XO for 1st Brigade and deployed to Iraq ISO Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon returning from his deployment LTC Rose was promoted to CPT, attended and completed Pathfinder School, the Aviation Captain’s Career Course, SERE-C High Risk, and Sapper School before attending Civil Affairs Assessment & Selection at Ft. Bragg, NC. After CAAS, LTC Rose attended the CAQC and Tagalog CLANG courses before completing his transition to the Civil Affairs branch and assignment to F. CO, 91st Civil Affairs Battalion as the 161 Team Leader in 2012.

Then CPT Rose, completed pre-mission training and deployed his team to Kandahar and Zabul Provinces, Afghanistan ISO Operation Enduring Freedom with F. 91st, 7th Group, and 4th Naval Special Warfare Unit. There, while assigned to VSP Tarnak Wa Jaldak, LTC Rose successfully transitioned his team from a village stability operations mission to the first Integrated Provincial Augmentation Team focused on connecting Provincial governance to the district and national levels. After completing a successful six-month deployment, LTC Rose was re-deployed to Ft. Bragg, NC, and completed one rotation at JRTC as an O/C augmentee for a 1st Group and 97th CA Bn Training mission. He was then selected to deploy to Stuttgart, Germany on a short-notice operational assignment to take over the Deputy CMOC position for E/91st. He split the CMSE rotations for E/D 91st and was later selected to deploy to Nigeria as a trainer to teach Civil-Military Relations and Human Rights courses to a new Nigerian Ranger Battalion preparing for action against Boko Haram.

At the end of a six-month deployment, LTC Rose was selected to take command of HHC BDE, 95th Civil Affairs BDE where he served as the Commander for 15 months. Upon completion of his command, he then was reassigned to 1st BDE, 82nd ABN DIV as the BDE S9. He remained on GRF for a full year and completed operational training jumps into Poland and Germany as a part of Swift Response 2016. By the spring of 2017, LTC Rose was selected for promotion to MAJ, attendance to the Ft. Belvoir CGSC short course, and as a student in the National Defense University, Joint Special Operations Master of Arts Program, Class of 2018.

He then graduated in 2018 with a master’s degree in International Strategic Studies and was assigned to III Corps, at Ft. Hood, TX as the G9 Plans Chief. He then deployed to Iraq and Kuwait in 2019 with the majority of the III Corps Staff ISO Operation Inherent Resolve as the Current Operations Chief for the OIR CJ9.

Upon re-deploying from Iraq, LTC Rose was assigned to A. Co, 98th Civil Affairs Battalion where he completed 24 months in command. During his time as the Commander, A Co led the Battalion’s efforts to develop a Civil Affairs JCET program in the SOUTHCOM AOR, deployed his CMOC and a Medic ISO Operation Allies Refuge, and developed the SOPs for rapidly deploying teams ISO SOCSOUTH requirements. After completion of command, LTC Rose was re-assigned as the Battalion Executive Officer, for HHBN, United States Army Pacific on Ft. Shafter, Hawaii. While serving as the XO, he was selected for promotion to LTC. He is currently serving as the Deputy Theater Civil Affairs Planning Team Chief at USINDOPACOM after completing a successful year as a Battalion XO. Finally, LTC Rose was selected to be the next Professor of Military Science at the University of Connecticut with a report date of Summer 2025.

LTC Rose is married to his wife Emily and has three children, Dillon, Layla, and Matthias.
