Ranger Challenge is a Brigade level competition conducted over one weekend once a year in October, it is the Army ROTC Varsity Sport. The UConn ROTC sends a team of 10 cadets to Fort Dix in New Jersey to compete against other ROTC programs of the Northeast within the 2nd “Freedom” Brigade. These cadets are picked at the beginning of the fall semester, and conduct more rigorous physical fitness training separately from the rest of the company. The event is physically and mentally demanding, focusing on the tasks that Cadets will need during their careers as Army Officers. Arctic Ranger Challenge is conducted during the spring semester, and is a more local competition conducted with other Connecticut ROTC programs.
