Lieutenant Colonel (R) Gordon R. Moon
Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Gordon Moon was born in London, England. Before moving to the United States he served in the British Army’s Royal Green Jackets Cadet Force.
LTC(R) Moon holds a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University, a Bachelor of Arts from Fairmont State University, and a Master’s of Science in Leadership from Central Michigan University.
LTC(R) Moon enlisted in the Army in 1986, serving as an Infantryman in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). In 1994 he was selected for the Army’s Green to Gold program, earning a commission in the Quartermaster Corps in 1996.
LTC(R) Moon’s first assignment was as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in the 54th QM Company (Mortuary Affairs). In 1999, he was assigned to the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) mission in Egypt, serving as Support Platoon Leader at South Camp, and later as the Support Operations Officer (Transportation) at North Camp.
In 2000, after completing the Combined Logistics Captains Career (CLC3) and Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS3), LTC(R) Moon returned to the 101st Airborne Division (AA) and was assigned to 1st BDE, 327th Infantry Regiment as the Assistant Brigade S-4, and later the Brigade S-4.
LTC(R) Moon served as the Battalion S-4 for the 426th Forward Support Battalion (FSB) before assuming command of Headquarters and Alpha Company, 526th FSB in November, 2002. In March 2003 he deployed his company to Iraq, supporting combat operations in An-Najaf, Karbala, Al-Hillah, Iskandaryiah, Maymadyiah, Haditha, Baghdad, and Mosul.
In 2004, LTC(R) Moon was assigned to Fort Lee, VA, as Chief of the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, and later Chief of the Officer Advanced Course. In 2007, he was assigned to Fort Dix, NJ, where he served as the Brigade Logistics Officer for the 72nd Field Artillery Brigade. In 2009, LTC(R) Moon attended the Command and General Staff Course at Fort Leavenworth, KS. After completing CGSC, he served as the Theater Maintenance Chief, 3rd ARMY, ARCENT, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. After a year in Kuwait, LTC(R) Moon returned to Fort Leavenworth as a Logistics Observer/Trainer for Operations Group Sierra, Mission Command Training Program (MCTP), later serving as the Operations Officer for the group. LTC(R) Moon was then selected to become Connecticut’s Active Duty Title 10 Command Inspector General. He then returned to Kuwait as the Director of Logistics for Area Support Group-Kuwait (ASG-K). LTC(R) Moon’s final assignment was as the Senior Army Advisor (1st Army) to the State of Connecticut. LTC(R) Moon retired on 31 December 2024 after having served a total of 38 years and 11 months.
LTC(R) Moon’s military education includes the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, the Mortuary Affairs Officer Course, the Petroleum Officers Course, Air Assault School, the Support Operations Course, the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Maintenance Leaders Course, the Total Army Instructor Training Course, the Small Group Instructor Training Course, the US Army Command and General Staff Course, and the US Army Inspector General Course.
LTC(R) Moon’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Soldier’s Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (6OLC), the Joint Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (4OLC) including one for Heroism, the Army Achievement Medal (4OLC), the Meritorious Unit Citation (1OLC), the Army Superior Unit Award (2OLC), the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (1BS), the Iraq Campaign Medal (2BS), the Army Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (1BS), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award), the Multinational Force and Observers Medal (2nd award), The Air Assault badge, and the Combat Action Badge.
LTC(R) Moon’s awards also include the German Armed Forces Efficiency Badge (Gold), and the US Army Quartermaster Center and School’s Distinguished Instructor Award (2006).
LTC(R) Moon is also a member of: the Order of Saint Barbara (FA), the Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe (OD), the Order of Saint Maurice (IN), the Order of Saint Christopher (TC), and the Distinguished Order of Saint Martin (QM).
LTC(R) Moon was also a two-time All-Conference and College Football All-American at FSU and was inducted into the FSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.
LTC(R) Moon has three children and five granddaughters.
