CPT Gabriel Valladares

Assistant Professor of Military Studies


Captain (CPT) Gabriel Valladares enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 2004. After graduating Boot Camp, he attended the Administrative Clerk Course in July 2004 and was assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 266 (HMM-266) at Marine Corps Air Station New River, NC and deployed in support of Iraqi Freedom. In 2008, CPT Valladares transferred to the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit at Camp Lejeune, NC and deployed to Bangladesh in support of Operation Sea Angle. In 2009, CPT Valladares reclassed as a Career Counselor and upon graduation was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 272 at Marine Corps Air Station New River, NC and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After returning from deployment CPT Valladares completed his enlistment commitment and returned to his home to Washington State December of 2012. In January 2013, CPT Valladares joined the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at Central Washington University. He commissioned as a Quartermaster Officer in 2016 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Child Education. His Military education includes the Quartermaster Basic Officer Leaders Course, Basic Airborne Course, Aerial Delivery and Material Officer Course and the Logistics Captain’s Career Course.

His assignments include Platoon Leader and Executive Officer for Echo Company, 307th Engineer Battalion, Fort Liberty, NC; Battalion S4 Officer for 719th Military Intelligence Battalion, Camp Humphreys, Korea; Supply and Services Officer and S4 Officer in Charge for 189th Division Sustainment Support Battalion, and Company Commander for Echo Company, 189th Division Sustainment Support Battalion.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with one gold star), Army Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (with one bronze star), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (with two bronze stars), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with two bronze stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with two bronze stars), and NATO International Security Assistance Force Medal, Parachutist Badge, and Rigger Badge.

CPT Valladares is married to Kristina Valladares of Boston, MA. He is the father to Khloe and Liam.
